Which is so simple as to be profound: "At Wellesley, I saw banners and signs that said ‘We are women who will make a difference in the world.' I thought: How do I go back home and create a new narrative for girls who look like me?" In high school, she fought for environmental justice in her neighborhood. In college, she worked with Ethos (#8), the change-making cultural org for students of African descent. After, she rewrote the narrative: first as Director of Youth Opportunity at Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative; then as Executive Director of the Hawthorne Youth and Community Center; now as a member of the Massachusetts State Senate, representing the 2nd Suffolk District. Class of 2002.
