Maria Waller

Senior Instructor in Geosciences Laboratory

Teaches geosciences labs; Committed to giving students an appreciation for earth processes and an understanding of their impacts.

I enjoy introducing students to geosciences concepts and topics through hands-on exploration in the lab and in the field. I am interested in science education. I think that it is very important for everyone to appreciate how scientific understanding and knowledge are developed and how to think about uncertainty in science. I teach labs for 2 introductory geosciences courses--Earth Processes and the Environment and The Dynamic Earth.

I also am interested in teaching geosciences to younger students and school teachers. I have developed geosciences activities for pre-school and school-age children and led student groups and teacher groups in the field.

Outside of work, I love gardening, playing badminton and, along with my husband, raising our 2 boys.
