Jose Gomez is a Pre-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Political Science at Wellesley College and a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University. He specializes in American Politics and his research and teaching interests lie at the intersection between racial and ethnic politics, political psychology, and political socialization, with a focus on electoral participation. His dissertation focuses on the turnout gap between Latinos and other racial/ethnic groups in the U.S. In a series of three studies, he investigates the origins of the turnout gap, tracing disparities in engagement to pre-voting ages, analyzes the influence of local Spanish television news stations on voter turnout and tests the potential influence of group-exemplars on the political attitudes and aspirations of young Latinos. He has published work in academic journals including Political Behavior and American Politics Research.
