Wellesley’s physics department received the 2024 Improving Undergraduate Physics Education award from the American Physical Society (APS). In its citation, the APS noted the department’s extensive curricular revisions, progressive pedagogies, and commitment to engaging students in early research opportunities. Over the past decade, the number of Wellesley physics majors has quadrupled, and the recent unification of the physics and astronomy departments has further enhanced opportunities for students and faculty. “We are proud to receive this award,” says Yue Hu, professor of physics and inaugural chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, “and we look forward to continuing our support of Wellesley students.”
